Every year, about this time, I will ask of my family a traditional question. Not that I believe it is a tradition in any other family, but to me it is a perplexing issue. Let's get one thing straight, I am NOT an animal rights activist, I don't believe that animals such as dogs, cats, fish, crustaceans (yum) or foul have any rights what so ever. This is not to say that I am cruel hearted when it comes to said animals, it’s just that humans must prevail. That all said let me get on with the traditional question.
You see, every year, at this time of year we start thinking about the “traditional” Thanksgiving main course. Now I know the statistics are out there about how many turkeys are consumed, I don’t know the numbers but I do know it’s a bunch of birds! With that in mind, a bunch of birds means bunches and bunches of bird feathers that come from these bunches of birds.
The question of the season is: WHAT DO THEY DO WITH ALL OF THOSE FEATHERS?
Now come on, I have never seen a turkey feather pillow or mattress, have you? You don’t see turkey feathers used as decoration on hats (does anyone even wear feathered hats for that matter.) Do they use them for cattle feed? Can’t be a lot of nutrition in feathers. Do they use those feathers to pave the nation’s highways? That doesn’t seem practical.
Do you see my point? There is a lot of turkey feathers unaccounted for here. There needs to be an investigation to make sure they are being used correctly and not being wasted on frivolous endeavors taking advantage of this stately bird. Don’t you agree? Now when you sit down at the table to enjoy your bird, just ask the question:
WHAT DO THEY DO WITH ALL OF THOSE FEATHERS?
Maybe we’ll get an answer.
